Founded in 1975 in Flintshire on the Dee estuary, FMVC is a registered charity dedicated to their singing and passing on that enjoyment to their audiences. The choir’s repertoire encompasses a wide variety of music stretching from the 16th century to the 21st, including “old faithfuls”, traditional Welsh hymns and folk songs, plus modern pop and quality contemporary compositions in many languages. Appearing by invitation, the choir has travelled the length and breadth of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as Germany, Austria, Prague, Malta and France. Wherever they go, new ties are bound and new friendships formed. Flint Male Voice Choir has always been competitive and continues to enhance its reputation in every competition entered. Since the first success at Butlins in Pwllheli, the choir has gone on to earn the respect of the choral world with successes at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, winning the National Eisteddfod in 1990 and 1991, first at the North Wales Choral Festival and winners of both the Freckleton Festival and the Powys Eisteddfod. In 2007 they won the Male Voice Choir section in S4C’s biennial Côr Cymru competition, and reached the Final again in 2009.Among the most enjoyable events are the choir’s frequent trips to Celtic festivals in France and Flint Male Voice Choir is the only choir to have represented Wales four times at the Lorient Interceltic Festival in Brittany (1997, 2001, 2004 and 2007). They have also appeared in Paris (2003 and 2007), Nantes (2006) and Rennes (2008).
