Copa is proud to announce that the Welsh musical kings, Sibrydion, are returning with their long awaited second album, Simsalabim. After the prodigious success of JigCal, this album marks the exciting new career step for one of Wales’ favourite bands. Tipped as one of the best albums of 2007, Sibrydion have developed and grown since the release of their debut album, JigCal, in 2005. Dafydd Nant has now joined the band and Osian Gwynedd will be on keys. Osian said, “It will now be easier to re-create our sound in live performances. The band’s sound has developed and we are using more instruments including cavaco (similar to the eukalele), melodica (similar to the accordion and harmonica) flutes, bells, and beer bottles… everything we can lay our hands on! We then throw these into a large cauldron (full of magic medicine) leave it to simmer, and voila… Simsalabim!” C2 Radio Cymru presenter, Lisa Gwilym, said, “After Jig-Cal’s sweeping success we have been eagerly awaiting Simsalabim! With Osh and Mei’s usual catchy compositions, great musicianship, and superb production that adds to the unique Sibrydion sound, I’m sure it will be one of 2007 best albums, by one of Wales’ favourite bands.” The title of the album, Simsalabim, is a magic word that has been used by the band for years. By drawing inspiration from Uri Gagarin, sinners, Syd Barret and Brazilian bands, amongst others, Simsalabim presents eleven Welsh songs in a variety of styles performed and recorded in the unique Sibrydion style. The album was recorded at Stiwdio Nen and produced by Osh and Mei Gwynedd. It was mixed by Cian Ciaran, of SFA and Acid Casuals, and Sibrydion at the Pleasure Foxxx Studio in Cardiff Bay. The band has already attracted well deserved attention. JigCal won the Best Album in the 2006 BBC RAP Awards, and S4Cs Bandit chose ‘Dafad Ddu’ as the signature tune for their programme. They have already toured across Wales and Ireland and Sibrydion was the Main act at the 2006 National Eisteddfod.
