England’s Prime Ministers come and go, but Geraint Lovgreen is here to stay. And there’s no-one quite like him. No-one who can make us cry without being sentimental, no-one who can make us laugh without being cheap. And no-one who can tell it as it is without fear or favour. If there is a prize for lyrics, give it to this album. It’s dedicated to the memory of poet and bassist Iwan Llwyd (this is the band’s first album without him), and many of the words were written by Iwan himself. The rest were composed by Geraint, Myrddin ap Dafydd and Ifor ap Glyn, the result of the travelling bardic shows they pioneered. Sad songs (nobody sings to departed friends like Geraint), funny songs, serious ones and satirical ones, and all to the dynamic accompaniment of Enw Da’s lively collection of instruments (plus a few unexpected guests). Even when it’s pouring down with rain (as it is at the moment), what better antidote than the sunny “Mae’r Haul Wedi Dod”, inspired by Geraint’s grandchildren and composed on the way from the playgroup? Yes, Summer is here! Dafydd Iwan, Mehefin 2019 Geraint a’r Enw Da will celebrate the release of the newydd album with a launch gig at Galeri, Caernarfon – Friday, June 21st with Bwncath as support. The artwork for the new album was created by the artist Sioned Medi Evans. Originally from Pen Llŷn but who now lives in Cardiff enjoys creating colourful and lively images that convey scenes from everyday life.
