2002 was one of Ysgol Glanaethwy’s most flourishing years since its formation in1990. The Senior Choir won the main award at Music for Youth Festival in London, while the Junior Choir won at Llangollen International Eisteddfod and Sainsbury’s Choral Competition. This recording is a pinnacle to a busy year. But, unfortunately, it was also a very sad year. They lost a tremendously loyal and talented member in a tragic accident. Gethin Rhys, from Abergwyngregyn near Bangor had been a member of Ysgol Glanaethwy for over a decade and contributed to their debut album, which was released in 1999 to mark ten years since its formation. Proceeds from the sales of this new CD and the concert with BRYN TERFEL, will go towards establishing a Scholarship in memory of Gethin, which will further and enhance the careers of drama students. Bryn Terfel and his eight year old son shared the stage for the first time during the memorial concert. Tomos (8 years old) is a member of Ysgol Glanaethwy, and Bryn is the patron of its MA Course. This album consists of 7 songs by prominent composers such as Cefin Roberts (the School’s Leader and co-founder with his wife, Rhian). Another influential figure is the School’s Tutor. Einion Dafydd has composed and arranged many songs and he is also the composer of the main song in memory of Gethin Rhys. The Soloists include Mirain Haf, Meinir Wyn, Sara Lian and Elain Llwyd, along with the Harpist Dylan Cernyw and Pianist Annette Bryn Parri (who also co-produced the album with Emyr Rhys and Rhian Roberts).
