Aelwyd Bro Gwerfyl was set up in 1987 for the young people of the rural area centred around the village of Betws Gwerfyl Goch, near Corwen. This became the focus of youth culture in the area, and it rapidly made a name for itself, under the leadership of Margaret Edwards, in singing competitions the length and breadth of Wales. When the members passed the Aelwyd age group, the choir carried on as Cr Bro Gwerfyl, and the success in Eisteddfodau and on concert platforms has continued. They have won major competitions in the National Eisteddfod and the National Cerdd Dant Festival, and one of their international highlights was performing in Cork before an audience of 1000 for Muscular Dystrophy. The reaction they had at that concert to their performance of You raise me up persuaded them to include it on this CD.
