Patrobas - Meddwl ar Goll
Gwynedd based up and coming folk rock act, Patrobas, are the latest act to release their début single through the courtesy of music magazine, Y Selar’s, Singles Club.
‘Meddwl ar Goll’ ywill be released digitally on Monday 29 June and will be available to download from all major online music stores including iTunes, Spotify and Amazon.
Patrobas’ single is the seventh to be released as part of the Singles Club partnership between Y Selar and Rasal music label, which aims to provide a platform for promising acts to release their first material.
Who are Patrobas?
Patrobas ar Wil Chidley (Guitar, Vocals, Banjo, Mandolin) from Tudweiliog, Iestyn Tyne (Violin, Mandolin) from Boduan, Carwyn Williams (Bass guitar) from Morfa Nefyn and Ronw Roberts (Drums) from Rhoshirwaun.
All members are former pupils of Ysgol Botwnnog in Pwllheli, but are now studying further education courses at Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, Coleg Meirion Dwyfor and Coleg Menai.
Patrobas list groups like Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford and Sons amongst their influences. As a young act from the Pwllheli area, it’s no surprise to see that local act Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog are among their Welsh influences, as well as Gai Toms.
The band’s music is fairly unique – their folk influences are clear to see, but they combine this with a rock sound which makes interesting and upbeat listening.
Y Selar Chief Editor, Owain Schiavone, says that releasing ‘Meddwl ar Goll’ is an opportunity to add some more variety to the Sengal Singles collection.
“We’ve had some indie-pop from groups like Terfysg and Y Trŵbz, punk-rock from Henebion and Cpt Smith, and the more alternative sound of Estrons and Ysgol Sul as part of this scheme. The more folky sound of Patrobas offers the collection even more variety and reflects the versatility of the Welsh music scene at the moment.”
Patrobas are very glad of the opportunity to release their debut material thanks to the Singles Club,
“I feel that collaborating with Y Selar and Rasal to release this single has given us an opportunity to record in a professional environment that would not have been possible otherwise” said band member, Iestyn Tyne.
“We can only hope that people will like what they hear and come back for more!”
The single’s official launch gig will be held at Clwb Canol Dre, Caernarfon in partnership with ‘4 a 6’ events on Saturday 11 July with Y Chwedlau and Bwncath supporting Patrobas.
