RHIAN MAIR LEWIS
Rhian hails from Idole near Carmarthen. She was a student at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, studying under Beatrice Unsworth and Catherine Roe-Williams. She has already won many awards as a singer, including the coveted Bryn Terfel Scholarship, the Youth Blue Riband at the National Eisteddfod, the John Fussel Memorial Prize, the 2004 Cân i Gymru competition and the London MBF Educational Award.
She has travelled widely as a guest soloist to Italy, the United States, Spain, Ireland and many venues in England. She was also a guest at the Buckingham Palace reception to celebrate British Music in 2005, in the presence of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
Her operatic appearances have included Lidocka in Shostakovich’s Paradise Moscow, Spirit in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, the role of the Young Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen by Janácek, Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and Pamina in Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. Her oratorio work has included the Requiem and Mass in C major by Mozart, Schubert’s Mass in C major, Fauré’s Requiem, Gloria by Rutter and In Praise of Mary by Geoffrey Bush.
For Rhian, performing is the joy of her life, and she is looking forward to developing her career as a professional singer.
