JOHN EIFION

Biography

John Eifion was born in the farming community of Garndolbenmaen to a musical family. After attending Llangybi Primary School he became a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, Penygroes. One of his best friends was Bryn Terfel, and they made their mark as duetists at local and national Eisteddfodau.

He graduated from Aberystwyth Agricultural College, and then became an Independent Financial Advisor, before taking post with Barclays Bank. He now works for Cyngor Gwynedd.

John Eifion has won many awards at the National Eisteddfod including the Open Tenor five times and the Cerdd Dant Chief Solo twice. Following the latter, he automatically won a Green Robe to the Gorsedd of Bards. After winning the Blue Riband Competition at Mon Eisteddfod 1999, he won a visit to perform at the Barbados Welsh Festival. He has also visited Canada as a soloist with the Caernarfon Male Choir, and is presently the Music Director of the Brythoniaid Choir.

Before establishing himself as a tenor, Eifion sang with his three sisters, known as Teulu Hendre Cennin. He is married to Marina, a member of another musical family called ‘Genod Ty’r Ysgol’ and has two daughters Lois, and Anest.
